Ironman Frankfurt Race Day: Not the Full Distance I Came For, But a Race I’ll Never Forget

09 Jul 2026

On Sunday, June 28th, I stood on the start line of Ironman Frankfurt ready to take on the full distance. But two days before race day, extreme heat forced the organization to shorten the bike and run. It was the right decision, but still a hard one to accept after months of preparation. This is the story of a race that did not become the Ironman finish I had dreamed of, but still gave me lessons, confidence, and proof that the work was there.

11 days. A half-marathon PR in training. And now: decrease.

Sunday june 14th was my last hard trainingday for Ironman Frankfurt. A endurance run of 1.5 hours with 5 x 6 minutes at half marathon pace. I ran a 10k PR of 39:38 and a half marathon PR of 1:29:30 - both in one sessions, without meaning to. Since I have started tapering. Less volume, less load, more sleep. It's easier said than done.
